Techniques for CollectorsGemolite Scope with B&L Optics

1st May 2010 23:42 UTCDonald Vaughn

today I purchased an old Gemolite scope cost about 40 US dollars it seems to have a few problems such as the objective lens slide mechanism seems to be loose. my question is maybe an odd one but the Eyepieces seem to be wrong, they are Bausch&Lomb15x widefields. When Looking through them it is necessary to back up almost three inches from the lenses which makes it tough to look see anything without it moving out of the field of view my question is this how many lenses are normally found in 15x widefields as these seem to only have the two bonded lenses and these have small pitting so I will be replacing eventually if it would be worth the trouble.

Sounds like someone removed an element from the eyepieces. This may have been intentional to make a long eyepoint lens, or it may have happend during cleaning when someone forgot to put them back in!

I figured someone lost the lenses during cleaning since the two bonded lenses were replaced upside down. just ordered a couple of 10x widefields will probably get a couple of 20X widefields just for the heck of it since the 10x will max this out the same as my cheap (though quite good for the price) Amscope.

only complaint other than the bad eyepieces is this scope does not have a lot of travel but I guess since its a gemological scope

it was not meant for large mineral specimens.

I fixed the objective slide mechanism looseness so my forty dollar purchase was decent
