Improving Mindat.orgMounanaite?

26th Oct 2016 00:32 UTCReiner Mielke Expert

http://www.mindat.org/photo-44885.html this does not look like any of the other photos of mounanaite from there. Is this actually mounanaite?

The specimen was labeled francevillite with mounanaite. I photographed the part of the specimen that was orange and was closest to the description. The specimen has not been analyzed by me. I am happy to remove it if you do not think that it is mounanaite.

From http://rruff.info/doclib/am/vol54/AM54_1737.pdf as far as I can make out the color given is for the synthetic crystals they studied. I noticed on your sample some dark brown stuff could that be the mounanaite the the orange stuff something else (francevillite?).

I have studied the specimen under the microscope and the orange mineral is not francevillite. In fact, it does not match anything on the list from this locality. It does not look like there is any mounanaite on this specimen.

Thanks Reiner for catching this.
