My WEB site is one of the oldest on the Internet related to minerals, geology and photography (emphasis on photo technique). (www.theimage.com) - I started as a chemist in organo-metallic catalyst chemistry, progressed to scientific visualization, did some computer molecular modeling animation, and finally image enhancement. I had a minor degree in geology, and did contract Geology teaching for one year at a small college in Michigan (I had to stop due to family illness.) I wrote the book titled "Agates and Jaspers" in 2009. Today I am retired and basically live in my basement with my slabs, minerals, microscopes (Olympus), computers (all Macs) and photo gear (mainly Nikon). Regular visitors include a couple of curly coated retriever dogs, and sometimes my wife.

I have written an article (I can't find an easy way to add it to the mindat pages) as it is a "pdf" document with multiple columns, 55+ pages, and 200+ photo. It's from a series of sequential articles (I wrote for my local Rock and Gem club over a two year period) on beginning digital photography for jewelry, gemstones, slabs, minerals, cabochons etc. It covers cameras, basic lighting techniques, editing, etc. It's a reasonable starting point for beginners (No advertising - nothing for sale!).
