The White Desert (as-Sahra al-baida), a National Park, is located 45 km (30 miles) north of the Farafra Oasis.
Allen et al. (2014) have investigated the pseudomorphs after marcasite (hosted in marl) found in this area. They consist of iron hydroxides, primarily goethite.
The pseudomorphs were also studied by Carr et al. (2021) who found a mixture of goethite and hematite, together with quartz.

β Formula: Fe2O3 Description: Allan et al. (2014) has investigated the pseudomorphs after marcasite found in this area.
These are often labelled among dealers and collectors as hematite after marcasite. Allan et al. (2014) shows that these in fact consist not of hematite but of iron hydroxides, primarily goethite. References: |
