Central Norseman Gold Mines was a subsidiary of Western Mining Corporation, one incarnation of the company who has mined gold at Norseman from 1896 to 2014. In 1933, it acquired the Phoenix Mines Ltd lease for 28 687 pounds, and 95 625 shares in Central Norseman making it part owner.

What followed led to a golden age for Norseman. A new plant was established in 1936, with a 10 head battery and ball mill, which was expanded over the years. Norseman became virtually a company town, with Central Norseman owning most of the leases, employing most of the workers, and investing heavily with infrastructure and community facilities in the town. This also came at the time of the 1930's gold boom. The phoenix mine was developed and found to be very rich.

Mining continued through the World War Two period, and picked up pace again after, with dividends beginning to be issued to shareholders from the late 1940's. The Phoenix mine closed in 1949, however the breadth of leases the company owned, enabled it to continually swap to another deposit, when the existing one ran low.

The name continues under the Phoenix mill, the company's processing plant on the edge of town. Also the Phoenix Tailings, a huge plateau of tailings sands backing the town on the east. Once a common sight around goldfields towns, most have now been reprocessed for their remnant gold content.
