The mine was located on the eastern boundary of the town, then known as Vosperton and later Gindalbie. It was owned by Hoff and McDonald (surnames), who along with the Hayes brothers are credited with the discovery of gold at Gindalbie in 1895.
The mine was worked intermittently by the pair for nine years, until sold to Perry and Ryan (surnames) in 1904. The name at this stage changed from the Latrobe to the Eclipse mine. GML 1047X. 12 acres. A 5 head mill was erected in 1906. By 1908 the owners were Perry still, with Harrop and Binge. The main shaft was down to 200 feet on a reef averaging 18 inches wide. There was also a large low grade parallel reef on the lease, separated from the main reef by a small amount of mullock. Crushings averaged 23 dwt, produced from time to time until mid 1910.
However, they then abandoned the lease, and late 1910 the Mines Department is advertising for tenders. No information was found beyond this date.
