Originally known as Hansen's Central after owner Neil Hansen.

The Mutooroo Copper Company from Adelaide took an option over the mine in March 1920. There were six shafts on the property, Jessop, Osborne, Roberts, the original prospector shaft, one for a winze, and the remaining one the name could not be located. The shafts reached a depth of 100 feet.

The lode trended north-west to south-east, dipped west 80 degrees, of porphyry and quartz leaders, with erratic gold values.

Independent sampling proved values lower than the rosey reports being produced by the company. Some average crushings were produced across a 29 month exploration period. The company abandoned the lease in August 1922.

Rowe and Party were operating the mine in 1932, with a 3 head battery. The mine was called Hampton Belle at this time.

Presently the Mutooroo mine is the northern extension of the giant Hampton-Boulder-Jubilee pit. There are also three tiny pits nearby, all just south of the Mount Martin Road, of which names could not be located.
