The Golden Link Gold Mine was a small lease, wedged between Lakeview and Star to the north and east, Great Boulder East lease to the south, and the Great Boulder Proprietary to the west.
The mine was developed by the Golden Link Consolidated Gold Mines Limited from around 1896. As the lease was between Lakeview, and the Great Boulder Proprietary, two of the largest and richest mines on the Golden Mile, great hopes were expressed for the Golden Link lease. GML 2326E.
Agent G.W. Dawson offered to buy the lease for some un-named London speculators in 1898. He initially offered 150 000 pounds cash, a huge sum for the day. The offer was declined, then he offered 250 000 pounds cash, with the same result. Finally he offered 500 000 pounds cash, also denied. The company should have taken the final offer. Subsequently some minor gold bearing quartz stringers were found on the property, but nothing payable.
The company also owned the Eclipse lease at the far north-west end of the Golden Mile, and near the present deviation road. They had more success here finding payable lodes, narrow but high grade.
It was reported in 1903, they had purchased a second hand 10 head mill from the North Star Company at Malcolm (east of Leonora), which they intended to erect on the Eclipse lease with a cyanide plant.
However little in the way of mining had taken place by 1909. In this year the Golden Link Company, Oroya Brownhill Co. Ltd., and Kalgoorlie Amalgamated all amalgamated. The Golden Link Company saw this as a way to access the Oroya Brownhill plant, allow the processing of ore from the Eclipse lease immediately with dividends to its shareholders, and gave it access to the Eclipse lode extension into the Kalgoorlie Amalgamated lease.
Map- locates the central Golden Mile 'Link' lease rather than the Eclipse lease.
