Koblov (German Koblau, Polish Kobłów or Koblów) is a historic village located below the hill Landek in Ostrava. It is currently part of the Silesian Ostrava city district. Its name comes from the grazing of mares in its present territory.
The first written mention comes from 1377 from a document written in German by the heirs of Prince Nicholas II. they divided the principality of Opava among themselves. Koblov belonged (including the Landec castle) to Princes Václav and Přemek. However, the village itself is much older, the long-term settlement is evidenced, among other things, by the discovery of a sword from the period of the Lusatian culture of garbage dumps, whose age is estimated at two thousand years. The sword was discovered in sediments near the Oder. In 1742, after losing the war for Silesia, Koblov fell to Prussia and was acquired by the Jesuits of Nis. After many other changes of owners, Koblov was bought in 1846 by Salomon Mayer Rothschild.
Until the beginning of the 19th century, the inhabitants subsisted exclusively on agriculture. The change occurred, as in most municipalities in the Ostrava region, with the discovery of coal. It began to be mined here in 1803. Thanks to this mining, the village still suffers from undermining. From 1920, Koblov in the Hlučín region was again part of the Czech state. Before the Second World War, the majority of the population declared themselves to be of Czech nationality (Moravci), but in the municipal elections in May 1938, two-thirds of the voters gave their vote to the Sudeten German Party. This pro-German mindset was strongly influenced by the intensive Germanization of the village during its incorporation into Prussia. After the Munich Agreement, it became part of the Third Reich on October 10, 1938, which most residents welcomed. The village was liberated by the Red Army during World War II on April 30, 1945. In addition to mining, gravel sand mining, which began in 1957, also had an adverse effect on the village. Koblov was annexed to Ostrava on April 6, 1976.
