Area termica di Boscotrecase (Buca della tenorite"), Boscotrecase, Complesso Somma-Vesuvio, Città metropolitana di Napoli (Provincia di Napoli), Campania, Italia
Thermal area at about 800 m a.s.l. on the south flank of Mount Vesuvius, active after the 1944 eruption until the mid 1950s. The thermal area included a dry fumarole and various small fractures opened in the 1944 lava flow near some parasitic hillocks, formed from eruptive fissures in 1942. In 1949, 5 years after the 1944 eruption, temperatures could reach 550-580°C; in 1952 they settled in the range 320-400°C; in 1960 the field was practically cold (Parascandola, 1959 and 1960). The so-called "Buca della tenorite" (literally, "Tenorite pit") of Parascandola, excavated in 1949 and monitored during various years, produced a large amount of tenorite.
