Carbonate mud accumulation in a Holocene pond basin.
The mud has precipitated from warm, hypersaline pond waters.
Presence of complex microbial mats (diatoms, cyanobacteria, purple-sulfur bacteria, anaerobic or sulfate-reducing bacteria).
