A former lode Au-Ag mine located in secs. 1, 2, 11 & 12, T5S, R19E, MDM, 1 mile W of Darrah. MRDS database accuracy for this group is not stated. Discovered in 1850. Operated in 1850, 1869, 1871, 1883, 1885, 1889, 1893, 1916, and 1930-1931. Operated by Helen M. Ketler, et al.
Mineralization is a vein deposit with 5 more or less parallel veins at 2 to 25 feet thick, hosted in granite and mica schist. The ore body strikes NW and dips 70-85SW at a thickness of 7.62 meters. Some gold deposited in the granitic dike accompanying the vein(s). Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include surface and underground openings with a total length of 237.74 meters, comprised of a 500 foot tunnel, a 250 foot raise, a winze, 2 stopes, several open pits and minor workings.
Production data are found in: Bowen & Gray (1957)
Production statistics: Year 1931 (covers 1930-1931): ^0.2 ounces Au/ton and 0.2 ounces Ag/ton.
Ore in the 1880's yielded $12 - $15/ton (period values), with pyrite concentrates to $900 per ton. Later work yielded only $3 - $4/ton (period values).
