An abandoned highway cut into Ordovician Serpentinite ejected from deep within the mantle and metamorphosed. The serpentinite is rich in magnesium and chromium accounting for the lack of plant life in the area. Collecting is welcome, as there are very fine mineral specimens to be found. Specimens of stichtite and Cr-bearing clinochlore were found in 2006.
