I think it's a pure side-view of a twin (c-axis horixontal). compare 282 and 326 of eisenglanz in goldschmidts atlas:

As usual, your posts are very educational and inspiring. So I got out the Goldschmidt Atlas and looked at the drawings you mentioned.
I can agree with your observations: we are looking at a side-view of the twin, but I do not think the drawings come close to this specimen.
Actually none of the drawings for hematite looked (very) similar ...
For me it looks like the angle between the major directions of the edges is just a little less than 90 degrees ... but then again I am only looking at the photo, not the real specimen.
I still hope Ru will provide us with more details ...
