Identity Helpconfusing locality on old Portugese specimen

I bought an old-time specimen supposed to be from Panasqueira from Alain Carion at Saint-Marie-aux-Mines this year. The label (old) Says (in French) "Crystals of Mesitite with arsenopyrite, quartz (with mica) Apatite and acicular crystals (in tufts and inclusions) of blonde tourmaline". Fair enough, but on the reverse of the label is the mention: Mangualde mine, Panasqueira - Portugal. As far as I know, Mangualde is some way to the North of the Panasqueira mines - and magnesite is mentioned from neither locality in Mindat. I attach a 'snapshot' photo of the specimen with the front of the label and anothe of the reverse side of the label. (all the minerals mentioned are not visible onb the photo, but are there on the specimen. Can anyone - perhaps Rui Nunes, if he is not too busy, - give me an idea of which locality is more probably correct and comment on the 'mesitite' identification?

With my thanks

Tim

Hello Timothy,

the sample is obviously from Panasqueira Mine, 100% sure.

I believe that 'mesitite' was added as a guess, not based on any analysis.

Dunno why Mangualde (Mine) is mentioned in the label, since there is any relation with Panasqueira, both locality and the sample.

Cheers,

Pedro

Mesitite is a synonym of Mesitine Spar (the German name is Mesitin) - fixed.

Thank you both for your quick and helpful responses. David, I did check the Mindat entry for 'mesitite' - that's why I commented on magnesite being absent from the mineral lists of both localities. Pedro, your identification of the locality as Panasqueira confirms my belief - but I know little about Mangualde... I doubt very much if any analysis was done for the 'mesitite' - what would you call it - siderite? (perhaps magnesian)???

With my best wishes

Hello Timothy,

it looks like siderite. To add something else, only 'testing' the sample.

I would be satisfied with siderite tout court ;)

Cheers,

Pedro
