GeneralBlue Bone Mine, Nevada

20th Dec 2016 07:53 UTCAlex Earl 🌟 Expert

I recently obtained a specimen of Azurite which was labeled as coming from the "Blue Bone Mine, Humboldt Co., Nevada, U.S.A.", however I have been unable to locate any locality in Nevada in the database with that name. If anyone has more information regarding the locality, that would be helpful. I thought about adding the locality to mindat myself, but I wanted wait until there was a good reason to. I have added the photo of Azurite, and will link it here, but I only added it to Humboldt Co., Nevada.

Alex:

Sorry to say that I know nothing about the locality. Two suggestions, however:

1. Include the label locality info in the description for the photo. That way if someone eventually does enter data on the locality, your specimen can be moved. Without it, you're probably the only one who would remember, which would depend on you seeing that the new locality had been added.

2. A shot of the full specimen and/or matrix would be good as child photos so there are records for corroboration. (Or maybe someone connects the dots from a similar piece with more history.)

Good luck and happy holidays!

Cheers,

D.

Hey Alex,

I spent most of the evening yesterday searching through my Nevada archives and couldn't find anything regarding a "Blue Bone Mine". Bluebird was the closest thing I came up with. Don's suggestion is a good one, especially a photo of the matrix. Someone with more knowledge of the area might be able to examine the matrix and give a ballpark idea of where it is from; not a perfect method, but something.
