Located in the Phillips Range near the Hann River in the central Kimberley. The location is close to the border between the Wyndham-East Kimberley Shire, and Derby-West Kimberley Shire, 150 kilometres north north-east of Fitzroy Crossing.
It is the largest kimberlite body discovered in Australia so far. The four north trending lodes, covering 18 ha, have intruded the King Leopold sandstone, except the North Extended Lode which has intruded the Carson Volcanics. The other three lobes are called South Lobe, Central Lobe, and North Lobe. The South Lobe contains four smaller kimberlite pipes called Helena, Athena, Persephone and Niobe.
The Aries pipes are composed of a micaceous kimberlite, deeply weathered to stiff clay, together with sandstone fragments from the host rock to a depth of 6 metres. Sampling at the sites have recovered over 7000 diamonds, but not at a mineable grade.
