Queitite from
Red Gill Mine, Roughton Gill, Caldbeck, Allerdale, Cumbria, England, UK

Locality type:Mine
Classification
Species:Queitite
Formula:Pb4Zn2(SO4)(SiO4)(Si2O7)
Comments:Cooper & Stanley (1990): This exceedingly rare mineral, previously reported only from Tsumeb, Namibia, was found on one small specimen collected from the No. 2 (Old Dutch) level dumps in 1987 by M. Rothwell. It forms thin, white, radiating-fibrous crusts with a minutely botryoidal surface on small susannite crystals in massive cerussite, associated with a scattering of later caledonite. Queitite was identified by XRD (BM(NH) and IR (UMIST). The habit is completely different from type material (Braithwaite et al., 1989)."
Colour:white
Confirmation
Validity:Confirmed
Confirmation Methods:XRD
