A former Au mine located 8.4 miles SE of Julian 2.7 km and about 5 miles SE of Banner on the SSE slopes of Granite Mountain in NW1/4 SEC 21 T13S R5E SBM at elevations from 3’450 feet to 3’900 feet.
Most likely located by Gus Redman in 1905, a sign near the mine, chiselled in a rock, reads “G. Redman 1905”, but the first claims were recorded in 1910 by W.K. Maull, 1925 to 1939 the mine was owned again by Gus Redman, the last known owner was W.A. Spillars in 1955.
Gold occurs in quartz veins trending NW and dipping steeply in mica schist.
The workings consisted of 5 adits (50 to 200 ft long) and 1 inclined shaft plus a small mill with crusher, pulverizer and cyanide tanks. All the entrances could be easily located in 2005. 3 adits were still accessible. Remains of the mill are also visible.
