Identity HelpTilasite from Langban, Sweden?
28th Nov 2018 01:38 UTCRobert Darabos
Purchased as "Tilasite and Svabite, etc" from Langban.
Had always thought it was Calcite or Dolomite though with small amounts of Tilasite.
upon recently reading about Tilsaite, it appears to match up a lot more than I thought.
It's from the Langban Quarry in Sweden. Quite brittle. Easily scratched with a steel kitchen knife. It has a weak reaction to acid, but does bubbl / fizz a tiny bit (you can hear it but not see it almost at all). It also fluoresces bright red. It has metallic inclusion in most pieces, which if it IS Tilasite, I'm assuming is Braunite or a similar mineral. It also has a generally white-to-light-color color, which the photo lights pretty much flood out.
Any thoughts?

Mostly calcite- that's what is red under UW. The brownish (?) small dots could be Humite group, tilasite ( normally more like fresh porc in color). This pic Photo ID: 106744 Uploaded by: Michel Arliguie is showing the correct color. (NB lower part has some brownish-yellowish garnet included) rgrds Aksel
