Improving Mindat.org"New Discussions" Window on Home Page

31st Mar 2014 22:32 UTCKelly Nash 🌟 Expert

I suggest that the "New Discussions" window only show discussions vs. every single post IN a discussion. That is, when a thread is created or updated, it could be shown ONCE at the window list in the order it has been entered or updated.

As an example, today's window gives the impression that there are multiple "discussions" on "POTD Safety Issues" and nothing else going on, when in fact there is only one discussion about that, and it's been going on ad nauseam.

I'm not sure that really addresses what Kelly may be saying. POTD Safety issues still makes for 6/10 recent posts. I think it could be something to consider too just doing the new post instead of every comment on the post. A timestamp could be put for the last time the message was updated instead of having the bunch of updated messages separate

Oh, hadn't really noticed that dropdown before. Neat. I'm sure you know when I make these suggestions, I have no idea how much work it is to implement them. I'm sure you'll prioritize your time accordingly.

I agree with Kelly.New Discussions should only show new topics in last day or 2.Any extra space can be used for replies. The problem is people making posts most don't see.Every Person deserves to have as many of us see their request for help as possible. We are a hobby in decline.Let no one go unheard.Thank You......Steve

I agree that on the home page under New Discussions, only the most recent post of each discussion should appear in the list, and should appear only once. This would prevent a popular discussion from pushing other recent posts off of the list. In other words, if there is room for only twenty entries, show only the most recent post in each discussion, the result being that twenty unique discussions will always appear in the list.
