Identity HelpBright Yellow Fluorescent Mineral on Volcanic Rocks
26th Jan 2020 20:24 UTCRobert Darabos
The material in question is several small patches of yellow material that fluoresces very brightly under LW ultraviolet light. I initially thought it was road paint or something that fell, but I started seeing it in a lot of places (and no where near roads), so I think that is unlikely.
Could this be a radioactive mineral from the eruption? I have no clue if that is even possible. Only other mineral I have seen locally with this bright of a yellow is a clay mineral like Nontronite, but that should not fluoresce like this.
