Volker,

What a magnificent specimen and photo. Thanks for sharing it.

Jerry,
I agree, Volker is a great photographer and has made many beautiful contributions to the Mindat photo section. Like you, by the way! Too bad Wind Mountain (New Mexico) does not have as many nice greens and blues as the Clara Mine (Germany) does! :-)

I'll make sure to mention your appreciation when I see him next week.
Cheers, Herwig

Thanks Herwig. I would have loved to collect at the Clara Mine.

Yes, Grube Clara is fantastic.
I did research from 2007 to 2017 every year and every year was a surprise.
I still have a lot of material to select and every time something new or exceptional comes out.
In 2017 at the grand opening, I found a quartz block weighing over 100 kg from which I obtained several samples with langite / posnjakite, connellite, signitite / beudantite, chalcopyrite, covellite in lamellar crystals.
But also a lot of chrysocolla and silver.
In the previous days a German collector found a geode with three polybasite crystals of about 2 cm inside a block of fluorite and barite.
Incredible.

Well, Jerry, as soon as this pandemic is over, we can "arrange things"! :-)
You only need a flight to Belgium, and I'll take you from there on a European collecting trip!

Sure sounds good these days! Luckily I still have some micromineral material that awaits processing...  This reminds me of something I noticed a few days ago. I'll mention in another post (on material from Summit Rock, OR).
Cheers, Herwig

Alessio, it's great to hear of your and others success at Grube Clara. It must be wonderful to have collected at such a great site!
I myself was fortunate to have collected at the Poudrette Quarry in Quebec from 1988 to 1998.

Thanks again Herwig, I may just take you up on that trip.

Hi Jerry
A tip, if you can go in the days of the grand opening, there are many more chances to find interesting samples and in greater quantities.
Obviously there will be more collectors, and therefore we will have to run more and before the others.
Keep in mind that I arrived at six in the morning to queue and I can assure you that soon other people were arriving.
You can see it from the photos
It is a good experience

Hi Alessio,

I didn't realize it was still possible to collect there. Thanks for your explanations. It sounds very exciting!
