May 2014Re: Unidentified black spheresReply from Roberto Bosi in Identity Help.
Uwe, it seems quite difficult to obtain a streak from these extremely small spheres...But I can try! Rob, goethite seems reasonable. But (because you are surely much, much more expert than me) do you know fluorite with this habitus?
May 2014Unidentified black spheresPosted by Roberto Bosi in Identity Help.
Hello everyone. The attached images shows extremely tiny black metallic-like spheres associated to the well known apophyllite, stilbite and heulandite from Pune District quarries (India). Some of these spheres appears on the surface of the crystals and are quite similar to hematite, but some ...
Feb 201411 imagesRe: How do you display or store your specimensReply from Roberto Bosi in Field Collecting.
...Someone says that I'm living in a catacomb. Why? Simply because my collection is not displayed...This is not due to jealousy or possessiveness, but mainly to space reasons (incredible, isn't it?). When I started to collect rocks (I was a child), samples were few and they were displayed in a ...
Feb 2014Re: ProbleminoReply from Roberto Bosi in General.
Grazie
Feb 2014Re: ProbleminoReply from Roberto Bosi in General.
Grazie, Anto!;-)
Feb 2014ProbleminoPosted by Roberto Bosi in General.
Ciao a tutti! A quanto pare ho ...
Jun 2017Re: Ricerca Mineralogica in Sardegna.Reply from Roberto Bosi in Messaggeria in lingua italiana.
Ciao a tutti. Come disse Solone: ...
Jan 2014Re: ¿Arsenicita desde España?Reply from Roberto Bosi in Tablón de mensajes en Español.
Posted by Roberto Bosi in Tablón de mensajes en Español.

I agree, this could be a good idea
Dec 2013Re: Apophyllite with inclusionsReply from Roberto Bosi in Identity Help.
Rock: A really striking hypothesis! Maybe quite improbable, but nothing astonishes us any longer in this world...Besides, when hunger becomes unbearable...:-D Pavel: Yes, inclusions are undoubtedly inside the crystals, and somewhere they also appears quite dark and variegated with black ...
Dec 2013Apophyllite with inclusionsPosted by Roberto Bosi in Identity Help.
Hi to everyone! I got an aggregate of "Apophyllite" crystals with Stilbite, a classic from Maharashtra District, India. The image shows some branched inclusions and a red-orange powder embedded in a crystal of "Apophyllite". The latter seems quite similar to hematite, but other inclusions? Maybe ...
Dec 2013Re: My Uranopolycase at Rosina vein, Elba island (or not?...)Reply from Roberto Bosi to an article.
Dec 2013Re: AUGURI DI BUONE FESTEReply from Roberto Bosi in Messaggeria in lingua italiana.

...Please sorry, but I do not feel like wishing wealth or success to anyone...In spite of the common thought I don't believe this is really so important. With all my heart I prefer to wish to all of you and to your families many health and serenity and a great affection, love and warmth from your ...

Hi all, this is my contribution to the thread...;-)
Nov 2013Re: Exhaustion of the turquoise?!?Reply from Roberto Bosi in General.
Thank you, Dave, for your interesting analysis. I'm also convinced about what you've expounded, this is much more plausible than an hypothetical material exhaustion of the specie.
Nov 2013Exhaustion of the turquoise?!?Posted by Roberto Bosi in General.
Hello everybody. Rounding mineral markets and exhibitions and going round collectors, sellers and so on, how many things you hear! Rumours, novelties, lies, this and that; Recently I've heard this: according to some forecasts, the world natural turquoise amount will finish around 2017. I really ...
Nov 2013Re: I would like help identifying some minerals and fossils. Any help would be greatly appreciated!Reply from Roberto Bosi in Identity Help.
The polished sample tagged as "cephalopod" by Reiner is, with no doubts, an Orthoceras: in fact, a paleozoic cephalopod. I agree with Phil also about the trilobite. Is clearly visible the "glabella" on the cephalon.
Oct 2013Re: When my time will come…Reply from Roberto Bosi in Education.
My unpretentious collection surely not comprises samples that deserve to be exposed nor specimens so rare to justify in-depth studies...And sometimes I think: maybe so much the better! Often nobody knows the destiny of a sample acquired by a museum; maybe it will end in a dusty depository, maybe it ...
Nov 2013Re: IDReply from Roberto Bosi in General.
I agree with Mike, also in my opinion this might be basalt. Looks like floor tiles, but the only "strange" particular is their small dimension...I'm also thinking of mosaic tessera (I know very well those of roman age mosaics), and in this case it also might be made of black marble.
Oct 2013Re: The Future For MindatReply from Roberto Bosi in General.
Hi all! I think is very important to keep Mindat within the reach of every cultural level, and I'm convinced of a fact: in the presence of a healthy and well-balanced passion there's room, inside Mindat, for everyone; the authoritative presence of the experienced man of science, I think, not ...
Oct 2013When my time will come…Posted by Roberto Bosi in Education.
Hi all! A necessary preamble is called for: far be it from me, with this topic, to sadden you at all or to bring bad luck to anyone…I want to be extremely clear concerning this! This is just a thought sometimes crossing my mind, and I only would like to know if this happens to someone else too ...
Sep 2013POTD thursday 12th september 2013Posted by Roberto Bosi in General.
Hello everybody! Rock, thanatology and post-mortem transformations of the corpses are one of my strongest interests, and I find this image absolutely fantastic (obviously from a scientific point of view...)!!! I saw many, many images of natural mummified, saponified, carbonized corpses, but this ...

Jul 2013Re: NAMES!!!!!Reply from Roberto Bosi in General.
Hi, Ruth, hi all! Yes, I understand this problem, often a mineral name is quite difficult to remember or pronounce...But come on, our passion for minerals, stones and so on must be stronger than any linguistic obstacles!;-). I think this "problem", sometimes, may result even amusing: when I say to ...

Hi all! In my collection there are about 2000 micromounts I've "inherited" from a friend passed away some years ago. Several hundreds are still undetermined. I understand will be impossible to identify all (especially from a simple shot), however I would like to start whit this trio...All these ...

Jun 2013Re: copal or amberReply from Roberto Bosi in Identity Help.
Hi Amanda, hi all. Yes, also in my opinion this is copalite. It seems to be similar to Madagascar copalite, but I cannot be sure. However, nice pieces! Roberto

May 2013Re: Magnetic woodReply from Roberto Bosi in Identity Help.
Hi all. I say immediately I'm rather ignorant as regards as magnetism, but I know that certain nonmagnetic (normally) materials might become magnetic or take some similar peculiarity. Some years ago I was a member of the italian Archeoclub; we were used to inspect archaeological sites in the name ...

Dec 2012Re: Have you the faintest idea what is this about?Reply from Roberto Bosi in Identity Help.
In order to make easier (if possible, of course) the identification of this UTO (Unidentified Terrestrial Object;-)) here find enclosed some shots of its main features. FOV is about 1 x 1 mm for all the images.
Dec 2012Re: Have you the faintest idea what is this about?Reply from Roberto Bosi in Identity Help.
Dec 2012Have you the faintest idea what is this about?Posted by Roberto Bosi in Identity Help.
Hi all! This specimen is a present I've received, among some others, about 35 years ago...It was in a box with other assorted minerals, the typical gift for a young boy keen on stones. This specimen is labeled generically as "rare earth elements" and generically as coming from Brazil. It shows ...
Dec 2012Season GreetingsPosted by Roberto Bosi in General.
Dear friends, it seems like we all have been pardoned by Maya's prophecy...Of course I was not scared about it, but it's kind to know we have a new Christmas in front of us! Nov 2012Re: How many of you have a spouse who is as avid a collector as you?Reply from Roberto Bosi in General.
Hi all! I'm lucky too. My wife is a true mineralogy fan, besides...she is russian, she was born in Gezkazghan (Kazakhstan) she lived many years in Kaliningrad (the amber city, where we married), she worked some years in Perm and my father-in-law is from Murmansk... It was impossible to be ...
Oct 2012Re: Bird hunterReply from Roberto Bosi in General.

Aug 2012Re: Unknown item in an old granaryReply from Roberto Bosi in Identity Help.
Ciao, Paolo.
Aug 2012Re: Unknown item in an old granaryReply from Roberto Bosi in Identity Help.
In my opinion is more similar to a smoothed, tooth-shaped bone. The right end is the diaphysis with the condyloid process not completely "erased". Notice, in the first image, also the foramen. The dark color of the bone may indicate a certain ancientness.
Apr 2013104 imagesRe: For the Love of DendritesReply from Roberto Bosi in General.
Nice idea, Stephanie. Here are two specimens from Solnhofen. The first, as regards of the dendrites, is not exceptional but agreeable; a single, isolated, well defined and almost symmetric "branch". This is an occasion, however, to show a very nice Saccocoma pectinata (on the left), a probable ...
Oct 2012Re: How Did You Collect Your First Mineral?Reply from Roberto Bosi in General.
When I was about 12, a well known (for that time) firm producing pop-corn, chips et similia started including some little minerals specimen (with ID label enclosed) into the plastic bags to tempt children to collect it...My first "finding" was a diopside coming from Piedmont, a specimen quite rare ...
Jun 2013Re: What's your least favourite mineral name, and why?Reply from Roberto Bosi in General.
I think...CIANCIULLIITE. Leonarda Cianciulli was an italian serial killer in the 40's of the XX century. She killed three old women and cutted their bodies, then she made soap with fat and cakes with blood. Everything was finally sold to friends. They say that all the...production was of a good ...
Jul 2012Re: Francesco Bedognè ci ha lasciatoReply from Roberto Bosi in Messaggeria in lingua italiana.
Jul 2012Re: Fossil egg? help identifyReply from Roberto Bosi in General.
Hi, Aqua Marine. What a nice object! Surely it's an interesting finding, but I don't think is a fossil...It looks too much "perfect" in my opinion. I feel to agree with Darren, but in this case an appropriate question is: who or what put this "egg" in that hole? With respect with its age would be ...
Jul 2012Re: Fossil helpReply from Roberto Bosi in General.
Hi, Adrian, I think the specimen is polished but genuine, I have some similar specimens in my collection. In my opinion it's a Goniatites (a nautiloid), and might comes from Erfoud or that area. Regards, Roberto
