A local term for a volcanic rock composed of phenocrysts of albite-oligoclase, augite and minor olivine in a groundmass of albite, chlorite and opaques.
The term skomerite was applied by Thomas to a prevalent fine-grained rock-type composed of augite, olivine, albite-oligoclase, iron ore and chlorite. He regarded the skomerites as intermediate in composition between marloesite and mugearite. In their mineralogy skomerites seem to resemble spilites, but in the absence of a chemical analysis their true status remains unresolved.
