2RF-T0TLeucite K(AlSi2O6)
Albano Laziale, Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, Lazio, ItalyField of View: 45 mm
Leucite crystals in the matrix.
Crystalline System; Isometric.
Genesis: typical mineral of potassium-rich basic lavas, such as: leucitic basanites, leucitic tephrites, leucitic-mellitic basalts and leucitic ancaranites. It is also an essential constituent of potassium-rich ultrabasic volcanic rocks, ugandites (olivine-augite-leucite) and catungites (melilite-leucite glass with or without leucite). In some rocks, the leucite is partially or completely replaced by an intergrowth of potassium-rich K-feldspar and nepheline or surrounded by a halo consisting mainly of K-feldspar and nepheline called pseudoleucite (DEER, W. A.; HOWIE, R. A.; ZUSSMAN, J. An introduction to the rock forming minerals, Longmans, Green and Co. Ltd., p. 393, 1966).
Associated minerals at locality: "biotite", kalsilite, kaolinite, microcline, nepheline, phlogopite, quartz, and others (NEVES, P. C. P. das; ATENCIO, D. Enciclopedia dos minerais do Brasil - tectossilicatos, ULBRA, Canoas, 390 pp., 2018).

Cruzeiro mine, São José da Safira, Minas Gerais, BrazilField of View: 120 mm
Cristalline System: Monoclinic.
Mica Group - mica variety rich in lithium, with appreciable Rb content. Contrary to popular belief, the pink color of lepidolite is not due to the Li content, but to the predominance of Mn over Fe2+ and the absence of Fe3+.
Genesis: typical mineral of granitic pegmatites (derives from metasomatic replacement of biotite and muscovite). It may occasionally occur in granites and aplites and in high temperature hydrothermal veins (DEER, W. A.; HOWIE, R. A.; ZUSSMANN, J. An introduction to the rock forming minerals. Longmans, Green and Co. Ltd., London, p. 242, 1966).
Associated minerals at locality: amblygonite, beryl, calcite, montebrasite, muscovite, petalite, pyrope, quartz, spodumene, and others (NEVES, P. C. P. das; ATENCIO, D. Enciclopedia dos mineras do Brasil, Solaris, SĂŁo Paulo, p. 298-299, 2022).
