Delightful groups of colorless Wavellite crystals at 10x magnification. This is so far my favorite shot of this micro mount, due to the dual terminated blades along with the sprays and more botryoidal clusters. Mitutoyo M Plan Apo 10x lens mounted to D850, acquired in 4:5 aspect (not cropped in post). Focus stacked from 86 individual images with Zerene Stacker, slabbed in PMax then combined in Dmap.

QQY-6FPHemimorphite Zn4Si2O7(OH)2·H2O , Rosasite (Cu,Zn)2(CO3)(OH)2

79 Mine, Chilito, Hayden area, Banner Mining District, Gila County, Arizona, USA

Field of View: 2.4 mm

Beautiful volumetric sprays of gem clear hemimorphite cover this specimen, with tiny balls of blue-green rosasite interspersed. This 10x magnification photomacrograph was taken with a Mitutoyo M Plan Apo 10x lens and Carmen Haas 200mm tube lens mounted to a Nikon D7000; stacked with Zerene Stacker. Diffuse continuous LED lighting further diffused with arched paper.

1DW-J62Fluorite CaF2 , Hematite Fe2O3

04522060016115565158669.jpg
Florence Mine, Egremont, Copeland, Cumbria, England, UK

Field of View: 8.7 mm

Fluorite cubes on hematite from this classic English locality. Most cubes were textured but under loupe I found a few which were stepped and pristine condition on this specimen which deserved more attention. Focus stack at 2.7x magnification using Minolta 5400 scanner lens mounted to Nikon D7000, stacked with Zerene Stacker using DMap and painstakingly manually retouched after stacking to prefer the crystal faces (these are essentially optically clear). The resolution thus attained shows the spiderweb-like texturing of the fluorite faces from this locality, and reveals minor beveling of the edges.

Y2M-80GAzurite Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2 , Kaolinite Al2(Si2O5)(OH)4

Malbunka Copper Mine, Areyonga, Gardiner Range, MacDonnell Region, Northern Territory, Australia

Dimensions: 99.1 mm x 90 mm x 38.1 mm
Field of View: 10.8 cm
Largest Crystal Size: 29 mm

Azurite sun on kaolinite with impression of adjacent sun and trace azurite in the depression left behind. The vein running through this specimen is one of the fracture lines through which the azurite was introduced into the host kaolinite. It is of course from the Malbunka Copper Mine.

Own work. This is three separate focus stacks stitched together (two of the specimen, a third to include the reflection), taken using a Nikon 55mm f/3.5 Micro-Nikkor early manual focus lens on a Nikon D7000.

Grape chalcedony with minor more typical habit clear quartz crystals, Mamuju area, Sulawesi Barat Province, Sulawesi, Indonesia. This is a large piece (16.3 x 11.4 x 8.0 cm) with great purple to cyan coloration with the individual balls large for the locality measuring up to 1.2 cm. There is phantoming, with a clearer outer layer deposited on top of a darker colored inner layer making up the larger globes. Acquired in the 2020 Tucson shows.

Stacked from multiple macro images. My own work.
