Geological map of the Silberhardt Mine area (near Windeck, NRW, Germany)
Silberhardt Mine, Ă–ttershagen, Windeck, Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, GermanyMap showing the geological situation of the "Kohlberg" vein exploited by the Silberhardt mine and other mines.
Silberhardt processing area

The area of the pond was later landfilled and is now a soccer field.

MXE-GGJChalcopyrite CuFeS2 , Bornite Cu5FeS4
Silberhardt Mine, Ă–ttershagen, Windeck, Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, GermanyField of View: 4.4 mm
Bronze-colored crystals of bornite together with oxidized bluish chalcopyrite (possibly covered by chalcocite? or covellite?).
Matrix is quartz and schist.
Visual ID based on crystal color and form.
MXE-GGJBornite Cu5FeS4
Silberhardt Mine, Ă–ttershagen, Windeck, Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, GermanyField of View: 3.1 mm
Bornite crystals on quartz, partially overgrown by secondary Cu-minerals.
The other bornite on this specimen is mostly massive ore together with chalcopyrite in quartz and schist.
Visual ID based on typical bronze-color strongly differing from that of the associated chalcopyrite.
EY1-PKMPyromorphite Pb5(PO4)3Cl
Silberhardt Mine, Ă–ttershagen, Windeck, Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, GermanyField of View: 29.3 mm
Quite ugly brownish pyromorphites, beginning corrosion of surfaces and overgrown by Fe-oxides.
Matrix is black goethite on gossan with limonite/quartz.
Photo taken with a 50mm-lens reversed, stacked image.

Aggregate of dendritic crystals of native copper, covered by secondary Cu-minerals.
matrix is schist with chalcopyrite-veins in quartz
