The Rainbow Gold Mine is approximately 10 kilometres north-west of the Porphyry mine, and one kilometre north of the Yerilla-Yarri Road.
The mine is part of a two kilometre north-south series of modern exploration and historic workings, minor in nature but extensive in length. The map in this case is an approximate location. It is uncertain where on the line of workings the Rainbow was.
Several mines are noted on the line of lode, most notably Yilgangie Queen at its southern end, and south of the road. Most other locations had Yilgangie in its name, and were minor prospector shows, with little information found.
Saracen who owns the leases in the area these days states Rainbow shows narrow high grade quartz veins to shallow depths. They are of a short strike, and are closely associated with brittle reverse faults. The wall rocks are carbonate-quartz-sericite-pyrite-arsenopyrite alteration.
