Hogan's Find is 20 kilometres south of the Mount Monger pastoral station homestead, the mine bordering the northern shoreline of Lake Lefroy.

Alluvial gold was discovered here in 1898. By early 1899, 700 men were in the area, scattered in a five kilometre radius, but only a few had found gold. There was no fine gold, and it was either slugs or nothing that was being found. A small town had popped up, including two bakers, a butcher and four general stores.

Shafts were being sunk to a wash at 15 feet depth, but the gold found was not payable. At the main workings the countryside was turned over in all directions. Little of this remains today. The area is flats within a few hundred metres of the Lake Lefroy salt-pan. A small water filled abandoned open pit exists at the site, from recent years and more information is needed on this. On a clear day, Kambalda is visible across the salt-pan to the south-west.

Another first hand account was located two years after the discovery. Many of the alluvial men had gone, with just a few reefing leases operational. A lack of water and a battery was hampering efforts.

Prospectors Thompson and Sheehan hold 18 acres with a reef and large ironstone lode. Adjacent was Carlson and Johnson's lease, which contained a small hand operated one stamp battery. Adjacent again was Love and party with 24 acres on a large ironstone lode.

One source states to 1906, 894 ounces was obtained, however it was probably far more than this as a lot of gold on old alluvial fields was never recorded.

General area geology states Hogan's Find is part of the Parker Domain. It is bound to the east by the Mount Monger Fault, and west the Lefroy Fault. It is bordered to the north by the Carnilya Anticline, marked by the east trending Talcum Fault.

The Parker Domain shows north-west trending isoclinal folds, cross-cut into a series of elongate domes, including the Aztec Dome in the Hogan's Find area. The folds are dislocated by north trending faults, and truncated by major regional shears.

The regionally significant Parkeston Dykes cuts the Aztec Dome in two. The weathered zone contains up to 10 metres Canozoic transported cover, then laterite and lower down saprolite.
