Monte Cazzola (2330 m) is located at the south-western extremity of Alpe Devero. Lago Nero is situated at its northern foot, between Alpe Buscagna and Alpe Misanco.

Quartzite veins in calcschists. Kyanite and rutile from this occurrence (the latter as black-reddish prismatic single and polytwinned crystals) are known for a long time (Baumhauer, 1905; Desbuissons, 1909). In particular, large rutile crystals were found in the 1930s to the south of Lago Nero by Swiss "strahlers" (Scaini, 1956).
