Ref.: Dunham: The Geology of the Northern Pennine Orefield, Vol II Stainmore to Craven, pp 173.
Disused lead workings, as the name would suggest, at the head of Apedale which is a small valley running northwest above Redmire and Castle Bolton.
The map reference given is for the large dumps which seem to be associated with the main workings. The surface remains include some substantial (but collapsed) shafts, ruined bouse teams and a waterwheel pit.
Sadly, the interesting-looking dumps don't contain much mineralisation at all, and that which is present is massive and/or badly weathered.
A nice walk, though.
