Sodic-ferro-anthophyllite

A material that is NOT an approved mineral species
This page is currently not sponsored. Click here to sponsor this page.
Formula:
{Na}{Fe2+2}{Fe2+5}(AlSi7O22)(OH)2
Formula redefined in the 2012 amphibole nomenclature.
Colour:
Clove-brown to dark brown, grey to white, green.
Lustre:
Vitreous
Hardness:
5½ - 6
Crystal System:
Orthorhombic
Name:
Named as the sodium-bearing and magnesium-dominant orthoamphibole resembling anthophyllite.

In order to better distinguish between amphibole end-member member compositions, the CNMNC has decided to rename sodic-anthophyllite. The name is not yet (Nov 2012) decided.
Amphibole Group, Mg-Fe-Mn-Li Ortho-Amphibole Subgroup
