Located in the Black Lake - Thetford Mines serpentine - ophiolite belt, this chromite mine, consisting of a series excavations, operated from 1897 to 1909 and again in 1916. The deposit was worked by open pit and underground to a depth of about 130 m. This mine was one of the largest producers of chromite in the area. Some of these excavations may be covered by dumps of nearby asbestos mines.
