At 2pm on April 6, 1930, a fireball was witnessed by many people, accompanied by a rumbling noise, air vibrations, and then a loud explosion. It was travelling in a south south-east direction, first witnessed 10 miles south-west of Pingelly, with loud explosions then heard over Cuballing.

An extensive search by locals failed to find any evidence of the meteorite, until May 20, 1937, when F. Quinn found a piece on farm Block 14355, close to Cancanning Hall, 12 kilometres north north-east of Gundaring. The specimen was presented to the Western Australian Museum.

It is 43cm x 42cm x 23cm. Simpson appears to have only made a light study of the specimen describing it as dark brown to black, with troilite in spheroids 0.5-1cm. It is the only species noted in the reference.
