This historic gold mine was east of Kuaotunu in the present Black Jack Conservation Reserve, and near the coast. The Mindat co-ordinates are approximate. It is a different mine to the Maori Dream at Ohui.

A trial crushing was produced in 1889 of 2 tonnes of ore yielding 2 ounces of gold. In 1891, 20 tonnes of ore is crushed for 10 ounces of gold.

The Maori Dream Company was floated in London in 1896. The lease occupied 100 acres. It was adjacent to several leases lost to time, including the Maoriland, Deadem, Premier, Golden Links, and Little Nell. All are likely to have a similar geology to the nearby Black Jack Mine, being in sinter deposits.

The company arranged to have some ore crushed, which was placed in calico bags and left on the nearby beach, awaiting a steamer to anchor off the shore, and transfer the ore by light boat through the surf. However, a storm arrived and washed all the ore bags into the ocean, which put an end to the company's operations. These are now likely long lost, but worth noting if beach combing.
