Sometime in the early 1840s, Mr. Philo Scoville began opening a shaft near what is today Scoville Point. By 1847, three additional men joined Scoville to enlarge current buildings and construct a blacksmith shop. Beyond this, not much is known about the property. No copper was reported from the mine.
