A volcanic cinders-pumice occurrence/pit operation located in the SE¼SW¼ sec. 3, T44N, R5E, MDM, 0.6 km (2,100 feet) ESE of East Sand Butte, on National Forest land. This operation is owned by the Forest Service that sells the cinders to the Great Northern Railroad, that uses them as ballast and bank widening for their line. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.

Local rocks include recent (Holocene) volcanic flow rocks, unit 1 (Cascade Volcanic Field).

Workings include surface openings comprised of an open pit.
