A former Cr occurrence/claims/mine located 2.7 km (8,800 feet) S of Boulder Peak, along Grader Gulch, a tributary of the Trinity River, E of Crow Creek, on National Forest land. Discovered 1935. Owned by Mr. George L. Costa, Castella, California. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.

NOTE: There are a total of 3 MRDS files pertaining to the Black Crow claims 1 & 2. There are two sets of data presented among those files. It would appear that MRDS files #10043522 & 10117796 applies to this location, probably one of the two combined claims, but not specified as such. The other file probably pertains to the other of the two claims located in sec. 14. This location was discovered first and is therefore probably claim No. 1.

Mineralization is a Cr deposit. The ore body is lens-shaped. The deposit occurs in a large body of peridotite that covers approximately 300 square miles in NE Trinity County. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 1 (Trinity Ophiolite).

Production data: Costa stated that he had 30 tons of chromite mined but not shipped on the Black Crow No. 1 claim (1941).
