A talc/soapstone occurrence located in the SW¼SW¼ sec. 7, T9N, R10E, MDM, 0.7 km (0.5 mile) NNW of Frenchtown and 2.3 km (1.4 miles) SSE of Shingle Springs, W of the confluence of Sawmill Creek and French Creek. Operated by the Industrial Minerals and Chemicals Co. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Soapstone has been mined since early 1955. The material mined is trucked to the company's grinding plant at Florin, Sacramento County, and prepared for use in insecticides. A F5rank Harris had a contract to mine and haul the ore to the plant.
Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains) and/or pre-Cenozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks undivided.
Openings include surface openings comprised an open cut about 100 feet long, 40 feet wide and 20 feet deep at the face of the N end.
