About Decagonite
Formula:
Al71Ni24Fe5
Colour:
Gray to black
Lustre:
Metallic
Crystal System:
Icosahedral
Name:
Named decagonite for the 10-fold symmetry of its structure.
A natural quasicrystal phase, second to be discovered and approved after icosahedrite.
A synthetic analogue is known. It is not possible to give three-dimensional unit-cell values for this mineral.
See also Bindi et al. (2022)paper on another - dodecagonal - quasicrystal, Unnamed (Mn-Si-Cr-Al-Ni Quasicrystal), forrmed via interaction of a lightning and an eolian dune.
