The auriferous reef is offset by two faults, lined by barren quartz. The faults mark the division into the North, Intermediate and South shoots. The latter was the most productive. Gold is found in masses of quartz stringers rather than one massive solid quartz reef. The trend of the veins is partly joint controlled.
The reef strikes north-west to south-east, shallowly dipping north-east. In the early 1900's, two shafts had been sunk to 82 and 40 feet, with driving north and south. The reef is lenticular, with irregular masses of quartz, with small chlorite veins, pyrite, and minor galena.
Known in the early days as No. 1 or King of Timbuctoo. Under this name until 1907 the mine had produced 640 tonnes of ore for 1111 ounces of gold. 3 acres. GML 187. The mine had a 10 head battery. Government geologist T. Blatchford states Bamboo Queen is GML 733 (former GML 54 and 409). He lists Kitchener as a separate lease GML 707.
