The Minotaur open pit is immediately south of the Mars open pit at the northern end of Delta Island. This land lays half-way between Kambalda and the Lake Lefroy Mill, and is surrounded by the Lake Lefroy salt-pan. The island is intensely mined with a number of deposits and has a complex geology.

At Minotaur gold deposition has been controlled by the Delta Island Anticline. In the northern section of the pit, the Minotaur and Belleisle shear zones control the gold. These two shears dip steeply west, and a series of stacked flat lying linking structures host the gold. Within the pit near the crest of the anticline, the Minotaur Shear flattens, and a significant dilational jog (FW1 structure) occurs. It is highly enriched with gold. Around this is a alteration envelope of quartz-carbonate-pyrite-biotite, up to 50 metres thick and over 100 metres wide. Footwall structures dip gently east.

At the southern end of the pit, on the western limb of the anticline, the ore bodies dip west. A high grade ore shoot (above 4.5 g/t) is found here, and occurs at the intersection of the Footwall (FW3), and the Minotaur Shear. FW3 continues south and intersects with the Agamenon Shear.
