Old gold mines located about 45 kilometres south-east of Marble Bar, at the head waters of the Yandicoogina Creek. This locality is different from the Yandicoogina iron ore mines between Nullagine and Newman, elsewhere in the region.
Gold was discovered here around 1895, and the reefs pegged. Some English capital was raised, money wasted lining the pockets of promoters then the leases abandoned. The erection of a 10 head Tremain mill mid 1898 by A.E. Purser on behalf of Perth speculators, encouraged prospectors back to the field.
However, visits by government geologists and local journalists generally panned the field. The mill was out of action much of the time due to bad management, lack of capital, and poor quality ore being sent to it. The prospectors lacked capital to properly develop their leases, were rooting around the surface. The reefs were patchy, poor quality of gold, low grade, the shafts were soon full of water. Activity lasted until around 1901, and the area was then largely abandoned.
A rough track leaves the Nullagine-Marble Bar Road and heads for miles eastwards across creeks and hills. The site contains (1) a compact group of shafts bordering the southern side of the track; (2) a small group of shafts with a small bulldozed area one kilometre further north-east, the shafts bordering the northern side of the track; (3) a compact group of about five shafts one kilometre north of 2 bordering the east side of the track; (4) and some minor isolated workings in the two ridges to the south.
