Structure: Four Sets Of Faults
Alteration: Locally Sericitic Near Veins, Minor Chlorite
Deposit: The largest mine in the district, development consisted of two shafts and numerous cuts. The shafts are no W caved. Much of the area is now covered by mine dumps. Surface chip sampling in 1973 indicated disseminated gold-silver over a broad area in the vicinity of the leopard view. Exploration by trenching revealed open-pit mining may be feasible (smith 1976 p.47) ; info.src : 1 pub lit; 3 field observ sheeted zones in andesite porphyry occur along 4 sets of faults transecting the area.
Deposit type: Epithermal vein, Comstock
Development: Center of district is patented. Listed As an active mine in 1983, employing 10 persons, heap leach, cyanidation.
Geology: The ore veins occurr only in sheeted zones of andesite porphyry. These zones occur along all four sets of faults which transect the area. The andesite is highlyaltered near the faults. Post mineral movement has cut off the vein to the north. Main dumps below millsite consist (1982) of a mixture of quartz vein, silicified andesite and quartz vein/andesite breccia. All samples contain dispersed sulfides, mostly pyrite, with a banded appearance, and showing Fe-stained vugs and dispersed sulfides. Some argillized andesite with clots, lenses or veins of fine-grained pyrite and some Fe-silica-cemented quartz vein breccia was also included in sample. The andesite host has a porphyritic texture with plagioclase phenocrysts set in an altered grey to light green crystalline matrix. The caved stope behind the millsite exposes bleached, argillized, kaolinized, silicified andesite. The rock is highly fractured and Fe-stained. The stope follows an Fe-stained fault which strikes n15w, 60sw, followed by mined-out leopard vein. Some hemimorphite observed in gossan here. Number of core boxes in core shed indicates over 20 exploration holes drilled to 300-400 ft. Drilling was done by spartan explorations ltd, summer, 1974
