Not a mine as some have reported, but an iron blast furnace locality situated on Furnace Brook (for the water power to create the blast) on Route 4 just east of Cornwall Bridge. Goethite (aka limonite or "brown hematite" in old literature) ore mined elsewhere can still be found among the ruins beneath where the charging bridge entered the furnace. Operated in the 19th century by the Cornwall Bridge Iron Company.
