Other/historical names associated with this locality:
Holestock

"Chiastolite is found in small crystals penetrating an altered Devonian slate at Ivybridge, and also associated with axinite at Holestock, near Okehampton." (Collins, 1892; Report of Devon Assoc. 1868, p. 341, loc. cit.).

NB Holestock does not seem to appear on the OS maps in the Okehampton area, but there are several Halstocks e.g. Halstock Wood, in the area around NGR SX605935.

Dines (1956) lists Halstock Mine 1.5 miles west of Belstone Mine/Consols on the west bank of the River Okement at Halstock Wood and notes that the Old Series Geological Map shows two east-west copper veins crossed by a north-south lead vein here. Also that it was also known as Holestock Mine and as Wheal Castle (the latter due to the site's proximity to a prehistoric encampment).

This is possibly the location referred to here by Collins?

Coordinates SX608941 for Halstock Mine are given in the British Geological Survey Technical Report WF/89/10 (see attached files)
