Amber deposit in 85-million-year-old (upper Cretaceous) marine sediments. Several tons annually were mined and exported to China for small carvings - among the oldest amber used industrially. There is an amber museum in Kuji, and a 22Kg lump is preserved in a Tokyo museum. A collection of Kuji amber is also preserved at the American Museum of Natural History in New York.
Note that there are several spots around Kuji city where amber was found, so not all of it came from Goishi.
