Gold.

Nugget Stream is approximately 12 kilometres south-east of Waitahuna. It can be accessed off State Highway 8, by gravel roads, Round Hill Road, then Nugget Stream Road, which ends at a dead end. The location is on private property, used in recent years for forestry harvesting. The creek is a tributary of the Tokomairaro River West Branch. It is possibly a continuation of the Canada Reef found to the east of the river.

There was some mining here in the 1860's, and possibly 1870's, and the name would suggest gold nuggets were found in the stream.

In 2009, an archaeological assessment found little, largely due to the thick undergrowth. An extensive water race wound its way along the hill-side, and is possibly one that ended at the Manuka Flat diggings.
