A former hydraulic placer Au mine located in the SW¼ sec. 8, T3N, R14E, MDM, 1.2 km (0.7 mile) NNW of Douglas Flat (1 mile S of Murphys; upstream from the Uptograph Mine). Property consisted of 60 acres. Owned by William Thomas, Jr. Initially worked in the 1850's as a hydraulic mine. Active intermittently during the period 1888 to 1900. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. Map GP-561 shows a group of mines in the SW¼NW¼.

Mineralization is a placer Au deposit located on the Centeral Hill paleochannel. The channel is deep and narrow, with sub-angular gravel capped by volcanic rock. The pay gravel is 30 to 100 feet wide and 5 feet deep. Local rocks include Tertiary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 9 (Cascade Range).

Workings include surface operations.

Production information: 14,400 cubic yards of gravel were washed during the period 1895 to 1900. Au yield was $14,600 during 1896 (period values).
